Smaller retailers can reap rich rewards if they get their ranging right. Partners for Growth Retailer Advisory Panel member Ramesh Shingadia, of Londis in…
I have been in the retail industry for over 30 years. I bought my first store in partnership with my brother and have since expanded to 7 stores with a turnover of £9m and over 90 employees. In recognition of our hard work and commitment, we have won several trade and local accolades, including Asian Trader’s Retailer of the Year awards in 1994 and 2011.
Following a business re-structure in 2014, we sold 4 stores to a European investor. In addition to the 3 remaining NISA stores, we recently opened a multi-cuisine Bar & Restaurant which has been hugely successful in its 1st year with great sales, reviews and awards. We are also continually expanding our property portfolio and developing an online project.
I enjoy working the convenience sector as I face new challenges every day which I find hugely rewarding. As well as running the stores, I believe that it is important to contribute on a broader platform. Over the years, I have held positions on a number of associations and boards, including being Chairman of Nisa Symbol Development Committee, Nisa Board Director, Board of Skillsmart Retail UK, Director on the ACS Independent Retailer Board and a trustee on the Sweet Charity Board.
