Why are cooking sauces important?

We have split our cooking sauces section into 2 subcategories and you will find planograms available for each subcategory:
Cooking Sauces are long shelf life product that can play a key role to provide meal inspiration for shoppers. 
 
Meal Makers 

‘Meal makers’ are sauces that provide a recipe mix for creating dishes eg Chicken Casserole. 
These sauces can help retailers grab shoppers’ attention when they’re looking for a quick and easy ‘meal for tonight’ solution. Offer meal ideas and inspiration by positioning the sauces with the relevant meal ingredients to boost basket spend.
Top brands in this sector are Colman’s, Maggi and Schwartz.
 
Why understanding affluence levels pays 
‘Meal Makers’ appeal to a wide range of shoppers and the market leader, Colmans, has broad appeal. In less affluent stores the Maggi brand is slightly more appealing to shoppers.   In areas of higher affluence, Schwartz is slightly more appealing.
 
Dry Pour-Over Sauces 

Dry Pour Over Sauces are complementary products that accompany a main meal to transform it eg Cheese sauce.  They should be placed next to cooking products such stocks and gravies.
It’s important to stock the top brands in this category which are Colman’s and Schwartz.
Within cooking products key brands are Oxo and Knorr for stocks and Bisto for gravy.
 
Why understanding affluence levels pays 
In a more affluent area shoppers can be encouraged to trade up by offering more sophisticated flavours in the Schwarz range eg Hollandaise sauce. Newer, high quality formats of stock and gravy (pots) should also be introduced to the range as these are superior products with a higher price point. In a less affluent area, traditional formats of stock cubes and gravy granules are more suitable.
